What's not to like?
Marmalade is good for you. Emitt is the vocalist / guitarist.
Marmalade is a strange yet familiar brand of dirty detuned guitar pop in a bizarre experiment with loop sampling, beautiful effects, and drum machines. The songs contain noisy riffs as well as ambient soundscapes and impossible clanks and bursts all performed on guitar. Arrangements are quick and simple, yet interesting and innovative. Presently, all songs and sounds are written by vocalist / guitarist Emitt Kuyt. The line-up is rounded out by Chris Annis on bass and Robb App on drums. What's not to like?

Consider the sound of Marmalade as the marriage of guitar-oriented bands like Radiohead, HUM, and Polvo; with spacey, trippy groups such as Spiritualized, Portishead, Stereolab, and Slowdive; with Aphex Twin as the best man and DJ Shadow as the maid-of-honour. Most songs are about isolation, indulgence, alienation, and exploitation; from a perspective that is sometimes naive, and other times cynical. What do you expect from a band that hails from the dreary East of the Greater Metropolitan Area of Toronto?

You liked it.
Ok, we're a working class band, university educated, but stuck in the confines of a bitter, barren, desolate, godforsaken climate (Ack!!). Anyways, there's more information and REAL pics coming up, so stay tuned. We have one CD out called '48:15' since around autumn of 1998. The next one, tentatively titled, 'What's not to like?' is coming out in early spring of 1999. That's it, laterz!
